National Human Rights Commission has issued a notice to Uttar Pradesh government over reports of an under-trial prisoner who died due to alleged assault by prison guards at District Jail, Jaunpur. Taking a suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission has asked Chief Secretary of the state to file a report within two weeks in the matter. <br/>NHRC said, according to media reports, a 35 year old, under- trial prisoner, Shyam Kumar Yadav, died due to alleged assault by prison guards on 4th of this month.
