NHRC notice to Rly Board Chairman for arrest of person with dementia

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, on Monday issued notice to the Chairman of the Railway Board on a report alleging that a person with mild dementia and impaired speech was arrested by the Railway Protection Force on 2nd of last month.

The police did not allow him to contact his family.

Taking a suo motu cognizance of media reports, the NHRC asked the Chairman to submit a report within four weeks in this regard.

Reportedly, the person was found traveling on the Ranaghat-Sealdah ladies special in violation of the rules and he could not pay the fine of Rs 500.
