The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh Government on alleged illegal drug trials on mentally ill patients in the state.

The Commission has taken a suo motu cognizance of a media report stating that over 200 mentally ill patients were subjected to drug trials in Indore.

According to an official release, the Commission has called for a report within the next four weeks. The NHRC has also directed the State Government to inform about the nature of drugs and if any survey has been conducted about the status of the patient's health.
