The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has issued notices to Himachal Pradesh government and superintendent state Electricity Board directing them to submit within four weeks a detailed report on an incident in which both arms of a boy had to be amputated after he was electrocuted on 18th March this year.
The Commission issued the notices after taking suo motu cognizance of a media report.
According to the report, ten-year-old Rohit of Bhukri village in Chamba district of the state was playing in a field when he got shock from an open electric wire lying in the bushes.
He fell unconscious and later doctors had to severe both his arms. The NHRC has observed that if the contents of the report are true, it raises a serious issue of violation of human rights.
The commission said, the power board gaving a paltry compensation of just five thousand rupees shows complete apathy towards the tragic incident.
