NHRC notice to Andhra govt, centre over deaths due to gas leakage in Vizag district

<span style="color: #222222;">National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has issued notice to Andhra Pradesh Government and Centre over deaths and sufferings of several people due to styrene gas leakage in Vizag district.<br />''<br />'' Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports about the deaths and people falling sick due to leakage of the gas, the Commission has asked State Chief Secretary for a detailed report in the matter including status of the rescue operation, medical treatment provided to the people who have fallen sick and relief and rehabilitation. The NHRC has also directed state DGP to inform about registration of FIRs in the matter and status of the investigation being conducted.<br />''<br />'' It asked Corporate Affairs Ministry to examine whether the norms laid down under relevant provisions of the law are being implemented at the particular industrial unit and to submit a report to the Commission. All three authorities have been directed to submit their responses within four weeks.<br />''<br />''The Human Rights body has observed that though prima-facie, as of now, there are no reports regarding human error or negligence but the fact that innocent citizens have lost their lives and thousands have fallen sick, it is indeed a serious issue of violation of human rights.</span><br />
