The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh Government on the death of a truck driver due to beating by a woman transport officer.According to an NHRC release, the Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report alleging that a woman transport officer and her colleagues in Uttar Pradesh beat to death a truck driver when he did not respond to her extortion demands. The Commission observed that the contents of the media report, if true, it amounts to violation of the human rights. It issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of the State calling for a factual report within four weeks.
