The National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the Tamil Nadu Government to give a report on the alleged honour killing in Udumalaipettai near Tiruppur. In the incident, a Dalit youth and his wife belonging to another community who got married last year were brutally attacked by the assailants in broad daylight near a busy road on Sunday. <br/><br/>They were rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital, Coimbatore where he was declared brought dead. The girl is undergoing medical treatment. Taking suo motu cognizance of the incident, the NHRC has directed the state Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to file report on the incident within four weeks. The incident has also sparked widespread condemnation from various political parties.
