National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notice to the Rajasthan government over reported death of a person due to assault by so called 'Gau Rakshaks' or cow vigilantes in Alwar district. It also issued notice to the Union Home Ministry calling for a response as to what steps are being taken by the Centre to deal with such incidents in the country. It has sought report within four weeks.<br/><br/>The Commission took suo motu cognizance of media reports that a group of so called 'Gau Rakshaks' attacked some persons dubbing them as cattle smugglers on the first of April. Those attacked were dairy farmers carrying cows, legally purchased under a receipt and stamp of Jaipur Municipal Corporation.<br/><br/>The Commission observed that such self-proclaimed vigilantes are creating an atmosphere of fear in society should be dealt with strictly as per law.
