NHRC issues notice to Jharkhand govt over reports of abduction, recruitment of children by Maoists

National Human Rights Commission has issued notice to Jharkhand government over the reports of abduction and recruitment of children by Maoists in the state. <br/><br/>Taking suo motu cognisance of media reports, the Commission has asked the state Chief Secretary and Director General of Police to submit reports within two weeks. <br/><br/>The NHRC has asked to respond with specific reference about the police estimate of actual number of children who have been recruited in the Maoists cadre, action taken by the administration to trace them and measures to educate and rehabilitate such children. <br/><br/>It has also sought report about the action taken against the persons who are involved in dragging the innocent children into the Maoist cadre.<br/><br/>According to recent news article, more than thousand children have been abducted over the past few years and deployed as foot soldiers, couriers and sentries around Maoist camps in Jharkhand.
