The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports about BSF jawans allegedly thrashing a young man near Bangladesh border in West Bengal.

According to an official release, the commission has issued a notice to the Union Home Secretary and asked for a report within four weeks on the matter.

Expressing concern over the incident the NHRC said that it is a serious issue of violation of human rights of the victim.
