The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, has issued notice to the chief secretary of Tamil Nadu over the reported death of 106 farmers in the last one month due to severe drought and withering crops. <br/><br/>Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, it has sought a detailed report on the situation in six months and inform about the steps for mitigating it. A regional daily reported that 83 farmers died of heart attack and there have also been instances of suicides. With the North East Monsoon coming to an end, the state is reeling under a shortfall of 62 percent rain during the season.
