NHRC calls for reports from U.P. & MP Govts over plight of people in drought affected Bundelkhand

The National Human Rights Commission, NHRC has called for reports from Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh Governments over plight of the people due to drought in Bundelkhand region. <br/><br/>Taking suo motu cognizance of media reports, the commission issued notices to the Chief Secretaries of both the states and sought a report within four weeks. <br/><br/>The media reports said, the deplorable condition of the inhabitants of the drought hit districts of the Bundelkhand region in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh where, due to the scarcity of food, the people are living in distress and starving to death.<br/><br/>It said, the Commission has observed that the media reports, exposing the plight of the poor inhabitants of the Bundelkhand region, if true, raise serious issues of violation of human rights to life, equality and dignity of the people.
