The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has stayed the appointments of Chairpersons and Member Secretaries in all state pollution control boards. <br/><br/>In its hearing over a plea by an Uttarakhand resident, the green panel today expressed surprise over the arbitrary manner in which the state governments were appointing the office bearers of their respective pollution control boards.<br/><br/>A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said, the states cannot go on like this and there has to be some fundamental qualification at the outset.<br/><br/>The Tribunal had last year directed the Ministry of Environment and Forests to submit detailed information about<br/>members and office bearers of all State Pollution Control Boards on their designation, experience and qualifications.
