The National Green Tribunal today slammed the Uttarakhand government over delay in restoration work, following the 2013 disaster. It directed the state government to complete the work by March 31.<br/><br/>Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar was hearing a plea by lawyers' body Legal Aid Committee, which had sought directions to the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) to place on record, the impact assessment for hydro projects on the Himalayan rivers, particularly in Uttarakhand.<br/><br/>NGT also directed the state government and the monitoring committee, constituted by it, to identify the 100 km Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) from Gomukh to Uttarkashi stretch without delay. The stretch was notified as ESZ by an Environment Ministry notification of December 18, 2012. <br/><br/>The green panel barred commercial activities in the proposed eco-sensitive area until further orders. It also ordered the state government to file a complete affidavit of compliance by the last week of February.
