NGT orders environment audit of government buildings to contain pollution

The National Green Tribunal has directed environment audit of all the government buildings, including offices schools and hospitals in Delhi. The NGT took this decision to control pollution so that public health is not adversely affected. <br/><br/>The bench headed by NGT Chairperson Swatanter Kumar said that the right to clean environment is a fundamental right and every citizen has a right to receive decent environment. It said this will include collection and dispensation of solid waste, indoor air quality system and sewage system. <br/><br/>However, the bench made it clear that it was not ordering government buildings to be converted into green buildings. The bench also informed that the Central Pollution Control Board CPCB) and the Ministry of Environment and Forest MoEF shall issue guidelines in this regard within two weeks.
