NGT asks UP and Delhi governments to remove debris from Yamuna floodplains

The National Green Tribunal, NGT, has directed the Delhi and UP governments to remove the debris lying on the floodplains of Yamuna within 3 weeks. <br/><br/>A bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar noted that indiscriminate dumping of waste is a direct source of pollution of the river. <br/><br/>The bench said the work for rejuvenation of river Yamuna should not be stopped unnecessarily as the pollution is rising daily and any "inaction on part of authorities cannot be tolerated. It said the Department of Irrigation of Delhi and UP would be responsible for carrying out these directions.
