NGRBA to ensure no untreated waste to flow into Ganga by 2020

The National Ganga River Basin Authority is to ensure that by the year 2020, no untreated municipal sewage and industrial effluents flow into the Ganga.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today, Minister for Environment and Forests Jayanti Natrajan said that this work will be done under the mission, Clean Ganga.

The government has sanctioned nearly twenty six hundred crore rupees to the Authority for this purpose.

The World Bank will also assist. Besides the government has also prepared the Yamuna Action Plan with Japanese assistance.

The Plan envisages recycling raw sewage by setting up treatment plans and creation of better sanitation facilities.

Mrs. Natrajan said that 276 schemes including 39 sewage treatment plans have been completed in 21 towns of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi.
