NFDB's 10th Governing Body Meeting Addresses Fisheries Development Strategies

In Andhra Pradesh, the 10th Governing Body Meeting of the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB) took place today (Tuesday) at Visakhapatnam under the Chairmanship of Union Cabinet Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying Parshottam Rupala.<br />'' <br />'' Speaking on the occasion, Parshottam Rupala said that every State has its challenges in the implementation of various schemes related to the Fisheries Department and there is a need to evolve new procedures to help the states overcome the challenges in the implementation of schemes. The Union Minister also directed the NFDB to examine the earmarking of a High percentage of traditional fishermen in sanctioning the schemes and provide suggestions in consultation with stakeholders. He stressed the importance of fishmeal production similar to shrimp culture, which is having high demand in the export market. Policy needs to be worked out for exploring the possibility of developing infrastructure for fish meal, deep sea fishing boats, traditional processing units, seed requirement etc., he added.<br />''  <br />'' The Andhra Pradesh Fisheries Minister Dr.Seediri Appalaraju applauded that PMMSY schemes are providing benefits to every fisherman uplifting their livelihood. He requested to consider the insurance for fishing vessels, consideration of providing the craft and gear scheme as a single need-based component suiting the fishers and modifying the unit cost of deep sea fishing vessels even up to 40 to 50 lakh. The Meeting was attended by various stakeholders and senior officials.<br />
