Newly elected members of the Agfhanistan parliament have been sworn in. President Hamid Karzai administered the oath to them.The president on Wednesday officially opened the new 249-member lower house of parliament, the Wolasi Jerga, four months after last year's disputed parliamentary election. Karzai congratulated the new MPs during the inauguration in the capital Kabul. Security forces sealed off the area, amid fears of attacks by insurgents.The commander of coalition forces, US General David Petraeus, Government ministers, and diplomats attended the ceremony. Last week, President Karzai announced the inauguration would be delayed by a month, because of investigations into vote rigging. But, he was forced to back down under pressure from winning candidates, the United States and the United Nations.
