In Kerala, the swearing-in of the newly elected R. Selvaraj from Neyyatinkara constituency in Thiruvananthapuram district took place Monday morning. The function was held in the Assembly hall before the Speaker G. Karthikeyan.The UDF has won the Neyyatinkara seat from the LDF which had won it through Selvaraj who had contested the 2011 Assembly election as a Communist Party of India candidate. He had won the election defeating the then Congress Nominee Thampanoor Ravi by a margin of 6,702 votes. However, Mr. Selvaraj resigned from the state Assembly and his membership of the CPI(M) in March, thereby necessitating a by-poll.
