The Newly elected President of Egypt, Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohammed Mursi has promised to work for a strong united Egypt carrying all the sections of society together.
He has called upon Egyptians to help him in achieving the goals of hard earned democracy.
He was declared winner in the Presidential run off elections with 52 percent votes, while his rival Ahmed Shafiq bagged 48 percent votes. Muslim Brotherhood’s supporters erupted in celebration across the Egypt after his victory.
AIR’s West Asia Correspondent says hours after his historic win as the new President, Mohammed Mursi reached out to various sections of the society saying Egypt is for all Egyptians and they will continue to enjoy equal rights. He said social justice, freedom and dignity would be the key and urged all to work for a new, strong and united Egypt.
Mursi paid rich tributes to the martyrs of revolution that led to the ouster of 30 year old reign of Hosni Mubarak. He also praised armed forces and police in maintaining the security and stability of the country. Mursi told he would respect all international treaties.
Egypt's cabinet, headed by interim Prime Minister Kamal al-Ganzouri, will convene for the last time today to deliver its resignation as per the constitutional provisions after the election of the new President.
