Newly elected Assam MLAs take oath

In Assam, all the 126 newly-elected legislators of the 13th State Legislative Assembly today took oath in the House. The Protem Speaker Dr. Bhumidhar Barman administered the oath to the new members in the Assembly. The leader of the House Tarun Gogoi was the first to take oath followed by other ministers and Legislators. Among those who took oath today included 78 MLAs from ruling Congress, 18 from All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), 12 Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF), 10 Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), five BJP, one Trinamool Congress and two independents. The Assembly later elected Mr. Pranab Gogoi, a former Minister as the new Speaker of the Assembly unopposed. The State Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will address the new Assembly tomorrow. The House is to elect a new Deputy Speaker on Wednesday before it adjourns sine-die.
