Newly appointed Chief Election Commissioner AK Joti took over as the head of the Election Commission in New Delhi today. He succeeds Nasim Zaidi. Mr Joti will continue as the Chief Election Commissioner till the 17th of January next year. <br/><br/>After assuming charge, Mr Joti, outlining his priorities as CEC said, the Commission will pursue vigorously its commitment to hold free, fair, inclusive and credible elections throughout the country. He said, the poll panel will also pursue its mission to ensure that no voter is left behind during enrolment. The new CEC said, the Commission will actively promote e-Governance for holding State Assembly and Parliamentary Elections.<br/><br/>64-year-old Mr Joti had joined the three-member poll panel as an Election Commissioner in May, 2015. He is a 1975-batch IAS officer who retired as the Gujarat Chief secretary in January, 2013.
