Hosts New Zealand today defeated India by 24 runs in the thrilling first cricket one dayer of the 5-match series at Napier. Chasing 293 for victory, India were bundled out for 268 in 48.4 overs. India got off to a shaky start, losing 4 wickets for just 129. But it was the 95-run 5th wicket stand between Virat Kohli and Skipper MS Dhoni, which brought the visitors back into the game. Virat Kohli scored his 18th ton, but could not take India past the Kiwi target of 292. Kohli made 123, while Dhoni scored 40.Earlier, put in to bat at the McLean Park, New Zealand posted 292 for 7 in the stipulated 50 overs. Kane Williamson top scored with a brilliant 71, but it was Corey Anderson, who with superb partnerships with skipper Brendon McCullum and Luke Ronchi, helped the home side score a formidable total. Anderson made an unbeaten 68. For the Men in Blue, Mohammed Shami bagged the maximum of 4 wickets. Besides, Skipper MS Dhoni today wrote his name in the history books, as he became the first Indian wicketkeeper and the fourth overall to effect 300 dismissals in ODIs.The second ODI will be played at Hamilton on Wednesday.
