Afghanistan's decision to bat first backfired badly as they lost wickets in regular intervals bundling out for 186. Spinner Daniel Vettori bagged 4 wickets and became the fifth spinner and 12th bowler overall to reach 300 ODI wickets. Paceman Trent Boult also took 3 wickets.The Kiwis, then, easily chased down the target in the 37th overs to consolidate their position at the top of Pool-A. Martin Guptill top scored with 57, while Brendon McCullum made 42. Vettori was adjudged man of the match.
