On his 27th Birthday, Ross Taylor on Tuesday slammed his first World Cup century as New Zealand thrashed Pakistan by a 110 runs at Kandy, Sri Lanka. In an extraordinary display of power-hitting, Ross Taylor clobbered 7 maximums and 8 fours in his brilliant 131 not out as Pakistan saw their first defeat of the tournament. After a pedestrian start, the Kiwis hammered a 114 runs in the last six overs amassing a mammoth 302 for 7 in their 50 overs. In reply, Pakistan were dismissed for 192, thanks to New Zealand's fearsome seam bowling. Abdul Razzak top scored for Pakistan with 62. With 3 wickets, Tim Southee was the pick of the bowlers. But the overall plaudits and the Man of the Match trophy went to the most deserved, Ross Taylor. In the last six overs of Tuesday's breath-taking day-night encounter, the runs were not scored, they were plundered. For the first time in the tournament, the lanky New Zealander showed how to take calculated risks after a slow and steady start. Despite the pitch favoring the bowlers, where the ball was not really coming on to the bat, Ross Taylor scripted a belligerent knock, taking New Zealand to the top of Group-A. The capricious Kiwi bladesman stored his energy till the last and applied it during the death overs. This was actually what the lesson, Taylor taught other teams during Tuesday's humid evening. All India Radio will broadcast live commentary on the India-Netherlands match. The commentary can be heard on Rajdhani and FM Gold Channels from 2 PM onwards.
