Notwithstanding chilly weather in the national capital Delhi, hundreds of revellers, soaked in festive spirit, thronged markets, restaurants, malls and multiplexes today to usher in the New Year. <br/><br/>Several public places were decked up with lighting and balloons as people gathered to bid adieu to 2016 and welcome 2017. Malls and multiplexes teemed with revellers.<br/><br/>In Mumbai, people thronged Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Worli Seaface and Juhu beach to celebrate the New Year. AIR correspondent reports that Mumbai traffic police made elaborate arrangements on various traffic routes across the city to ensure that Mumbaikars have a hassle-free experience while enjoying the celebrations . Railways and BEST undertaking ran special services for the revelers. <br/><br/>The Mumbai police also made several arrangements to maintain law and order in the city during New Year celebrations.Police monitored all suspicious movements through a wide network of CCTVs in addition to street policing to avoid any untoward incident because of drunk driving . <br/><br/>Besides this, Anti terror cells, Quick Response Teams, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad were also kept ready. As for Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, police put restrictions on para-gliders, balloons, high-rise crackers, release of lighted objects, kites and laser beams in the Free Flight Zone of airport. Boat parties in sea were banned too. <br/><br/>Beaches in Goa saw huge rush of tourists to celebrate New Year. <br/><br/>In Uttrakhand, hotels and shops were beautifully decorated and many cultural programmes were organised to celebrate the dawn of 2017.<br/><br/>In Himachal Pradesh, several cultural programmes were organised and Ridge Maidan in Shimla witnessed huge rush of tourists last night.People in Nagaland celebrated New Year with feasting and exchanging gifts.<br/><br/>In Chennai, thousands of people gathered at the Marina Beach to welcome the New Year. AIR correspondent reports that when the clock struck 12, jubilation reached its peak with people chanting "Happy New Year" and exchanging greetings with each other, even as enthusiasm filled the air, defying all adverse events in the city calender last year including Cyclone Vardah. <br/><br/>Traffic diversions were put in place by police to regulate vehicular movement. In places of worships including temples and churches all over the state, many thousands bid adieu for 2016 and welcomed the New Year with prayers for a promising 2017.
