New trade treaty signed with Nepal

India and Nepal today signed the revised Treaty of Trade and the agreement of cooperation to control unauthorized trade to provide duty free excess to each other’s primary products. Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Mr. Anand Sharma and his Nepalese counterpart Rajendra Mahato inked the revised trade treaty at a brief ceremony held in Kathmandu this afternoon.<br/><br/>Addressing a press conference after the signing ceremony, Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma reaffirmed that India will continue to be a partner in Nepal’s development and progress. He said India is committed to further nurture and consolidate the age old special relationship with the people and government of Nepal. Mr. Sharma said India is appreciative of the steps which the people of Nepal have taken for strengthening democratic institutions and wished stability, progress and to Nepal and its people. He said New Delhi will encourage Indian investment into Nepal and take tangible steps to establish training centers for information technology and enhance industrial skills.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion Nepal’s Commerce Minister Rajendra Mahato expressed confidence that the new trade treaty will help reduce trade imbalance between the two countries. He urged India for relaxation of import of food grains from India to Nepal and export of fertilizers from India.
