New series of Rs 500 & 2,000 notes to be available from today

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that the new series of 500 and 2,000 rupees notes will be available in banks and post-offices from today and assured that there will be adequate availability of the new notes in the coming days. <br/><br/>Briefing reporters in New Delhi last evening,the Minister said, people will not face any difficulty in replacing the old currencies. He assured the people that the government will do its best to minimise the inconveniences they may face due to the scrapping of old notes. <br/><br/>Mr Jaitley said, the initiative will help curb black money and parallel economy as they impact the actual economy. He said, the move aims at making India a cashless economy. The Minister said, the decision has been welcomed everywhere and it is a major step that will enhance India's credibility.

ATMs will, however, remain shut today as well.
