The prices of petrol and diesel have been hiked. In the Capital, petrol will cost 2 rupees and 71 paise a liter more while diesel will be dearer by 2 rupees and fifty five paise a liter. This was an announcment to this effect was made by the government in New Delhi on Friday. The hiked rates came into effect from Friday mid-night. The new rates of petrol and diesel in four metro cities are: In Delhi, petrol will cost 47.43 rupees per litre and diesel 35.42 per litre; In Kolkata petrol 51.05 rupees and diesel 37.73 rupees; Mumbai petrol 51.68 and diesel 39.60; Chennai petrol 51.59 rupees and diesel 37.78rupees per litre.
