New Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan to ensure extension of sanitation scheme to APL and, BPL, families

The new Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan will ensure the extension of the sanitation scheme to both Above Poverty Line, APL and Below Poverty Line, BPL, families. Speaking at a function in Patna, the Union Rural Development Minister Mr Jairam Ramesh said the subsidy amount for the sanitation scheme is also being raised from the present level of 3,000 rupees. Mr. Ramesh said 30 new works in the list of activities will be carried under MNREGA from 1st April. He said, the process of handing over of 50 per cent of the total budget of Union Rural Development Ministry will be allotted directly to the State in the form of flexi-fund by the end of 12th Five Year Plan. He said, it has been felt that local problems are not being fully reflected in the Central scheme. Therefore, from 2017 onwards the State government will have the liberty to plan the utilization of flexi-fund. The Centre will only keep the monitoring part under its control.
