In Afghanistan, eight of the nine protesting candidates, who were announced the winners by the Afghan Election Commission recently, on Saturday replaced the sitting legislators in the Lower House of Parliament. In the oath taking ceremony held amid uproar and tight security, eight out of the nine new lawmakers assumed their seats.The Speaker of the 249-members House, Abdul Rauf Ibrahim said, one more legislator who was absent, would soon assume his seat in the House. Afghan Independent Election Commission, IEC, on August 21st, announced the disqualification of nine serving lawmakers on the charge of involvement in vote-rigging, from Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of Parliament and replaced them with nine protesting candidates who challenged their failure in the lastParliamentary election held on Sept. 18th, 2010. IEC chief Fazil Ahmad Manawi said, the decision had been taken in line with the special electoral tribunal ruling announced in June.
