A total of 50 members from 15 states took oath or affirmation in the Rajya Sabha on the first day of the second part of Budget Session beginning today. Ten of them have been re-elected. They include Mr Arun Jaitley, Leader of the Opposition, Mr Vilasrao Desmukh and Mr Rajiv Shukla, both ministers and K Rehman Khan, former Deputy Chairman of the Upper House.

The new members include former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief, Miss Mayawati, Telugu Mega Star from Andhra Pradesh, Mr Chiranjeevi (Congress), Mrs Jaya Bachan, actress (Samajwadi Party) and former Indian Hockey Captain, Mr Dilip Tirkey
(BJD). The Chairman, Mohammed Hamid Ansari administered the oath or affirmation.
