Laying of new railway lines, introduction of double-decker coaches and zero tolerance of accidents are some of the highlights of the Vision 2020 of the Indian Railways. The Indian Railways proposes to add 25,000 Km of new lines by 2020. Of this, at least 10,000 Km will be socially desirable lines regardless of their economic viability. Presenting a While Paper on Railways, the Minister, Ms Mamata banerjee said at present the country has a network of 64 thousand route kilometres.<br/><br/>The documents said more than 30 thousand route kilometres will be doubled by 2020. The Maximum speed of passenger trains will be raised from 130 kilometers per hour to 200 KMPH. The Vision document aims at making railway operations free of accidents. The Railway Minister said the document will address four strategic national goals like inclusive development, strengthening national integration, generation of large-scale productive employment and environmental sustainability.<br/><br/> <br/>
