President Pranab Mukherjee has stressed on innovation and adoption of new ideas and technology to meet emerging challenges in tax administration. He said the challenges have emerged in the wake of globalization and economic integration.Addressing a group of trainee officers of the Indian Revenue Service at the Rashtrapati Bhavan today, he asked them to bring changes in tax administration in tune with the rapidly transforming national and global scenario.The President said direct tax collection is set to exceed seven lakh thirty six thousand crore rupees in the current financial year. Observing that, over the years, there has been an enormous expansion in the volume and variety of taxes, he said direct tax collection in 1860-61 was thirty lakh rupees when Income Tax was introduced in India.
