New Delhi says it will remain engaged with Washington on H1-B visa issue. Responding to a media query in New Delhi, External Affairs Ministry spokesman Gopal Baglay said, several key issues were discussed during the recent visit of Foreign Secretary Dr S. Jaishankar to the US. <br/><br/>He said, India's views were conveyed to the concerned US interlocutors. The spokesman said, it is widely agreed that the presence of Indian technical professionals makes the United States more competitive and helps its economy. <br/><br/>He said that senior US officials have stated that illegal immigration and not H1- B is their priority and US President Donald Trump himself referred to merit based approach on the subject. <br/><br/>On alleged incidents of hate crime against Indians in the US, Mr Baglay said, India is in touch with the US authorities to ensure safety and security of its nationals there. Referring to recent Kensas incident in which an Indian was killed, the spokesman said, there is a widespread condemnation of the incident there.
