New Delhi has warned Pakistan that Tuesday’s brutal attack on an Indian patrol will have consequences on India's behaviour on the Line of Control, LoC and its relations with Islamabad.
In a strongly worded statement over the issue in the Lok Sabha yesterday, Defence Minister A K Antony made it clear that India’s restraint should not be taken for granted, nor should the capacity of the Indian Armed Forces and the government’s resolve to uphold the sanctity of the LoC ever be doubted.
About the incident, he said that specialist troops of Pakistan Army and a group from the Pakistan Occupied Kashmir side, which crossed the LoC, had killed five Indian soldiers.
Mr Antony said those in Pakistan who are responsible should be punished.
Hailing the statement, Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the whole House fully supports the government. She said that now it is clear that her party was not politicizing the issue.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that New Delhi will take the call on a meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan next month in New York only after all the inputs are brought in. He said it is not the appropriate time now to comment on it.
