New Delhi stresses need for multi-dimensional strategy to mitigate impact of climate change

India today advocated for adopting developmental programmes to address the climate change related issues with a view to increase productivity and profitability of small and marginal farmers. This was stated by Minister of State for Agriculture, Harish Rawat while addressing the International Conference on Climate Change, Sustainable Agriculture and Public Leadership which began in New Delhi today.

Mr Rawat said, climate change effects will be more pronounced in Indian conditions as there are various agro-climatic zones. The most affected will be marginal and small farmers who constitute 80 per cent of Indian farming community. Mr Rawat also stressed the need of comprehensive and multi-dimensional strategy to mitigate the impact of climate change. Our Correspondent reports, the three day Conference will be attended by the representatives from 10 countries including farmers.
