New Delhi says it will support multilateral efforts to tackle Eurozone debt crisis

Deputy Chairman of the Planing commission Montek Singh Ahluwalia says, India will be supportive of any reasonable multilateral efforts to further tackle the sovereign debt crisis in Eurozone. Welcoming the recent Eurozone plan to stabilize debt ridden Greece, he said the Eurozone crisis is a global problem and it has the potential to impact India as well as other countries.Briefing the media in New Delhi on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the 6th two day G20 Summit next week at Cannes in France, Ahluwalia said, debt reduction alone is not enough and Greece will also need an additional package from the International Monetary Fund and the European Union which will have to be negotiated. He was of the view that the International Monetary Fund is the principal agency responsible for resource support to Europe to tackle the economic crisis.Montek Singh Ahluwalia said the Eurozone crisis has gained centre stage at the Cannes summit and India is actively involved in the Mutual Assessment Process of the G20 group that would set the policy priorities for individual economies to tackle the global economic crisis.
