New Delhi intensifies efforts to evacuate stranded Indian Nationals from Iraq; 200 return home this morning

Another 200 Indians have returned home from the strife-torn Iraq. A special Iraqi Airways flight carrying them landed at the IGI Airport in New Delhi today morning.

They have been brought from the Iraqi city of Najaf. India’s special envoy and former Ambassador to Iraq, Suresh Reddy told AIR from Baghdad that around 400 more Indians are expected to return home during the next two days.

Chartered flights are being organized and travel documents are being processed by the Indian Embassy in Baghdad to send them back home.

They will return to various destinations including Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad.

Efforts to bring back Indian nationals stranded in Iraq have gained momentum. 46 Indian nurses and 137 others returned to the country yesterday.

A special Air India flight brought them from Erbil in Kurdistan region of Iraq. The nurses were brought to India after they were released by ISIS militants' from their captivity.
