India has handed over the rehabilitated and upgraded Devighat Hydro Power project to Nepal Electricity Authority. The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of India Mr. Jaideep Mazumdar said the project has been completed in the stipulated time with the assistance of Government of Nepal . Speaking at the handover ceremony in Kathmandu last evening he said the upgraded Hydro-power project with the state of the art equipment would serve the energy needs of the people of Nepal The Devighat Hydro-project on the Trishuli River was originally commissioned in 1984 under Indian grant. India’s Public sector Company Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited BHEL has successfully rehabilitated the project by Indian grant of fifteen crores nepali rupees (15 crores) and line of credit of fifteen crores Nepali rupees (15 crores) . The three units of Project have been enhanced to 15 megawatt from 14.1 megawatt. The handing over certificate was given by Mr. Mazumdar to the Managing Director, Nepal Electricity Authority Mr. Rameshwar Yadav. The Project reflects the commitment of the government and the people of India to work with Nepal in the stride towards peace and development.
