New delhi expresses satisfaction on China's response

After China initiated criminal proceedings against five locals suspected to be responsible for the torture of two Indian businessmen, New Delhi has said that it is satisfied with quick response by the authorities in Beijing. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna told reporters after Chinese envoy called on him this evening that the process of moving the traders out of Yiwu to Shanghai has been initiated and they will reach Shanghai later in the evening.

Mr Krishna also said that the issue should not be blown out of proportion as it may impact the good relations between the two countries.

Earlier in the day, the Chinese envoy met the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, Gautam Bambawale and informed him about the initiation of criminal proceedings by Beijing. China has promised to address the issue and give due attention to the safety of Indian nationals on its soil.

Official sources said that the envoy made it clear that serious attention is being given to the issue related to the two businessmen and hoped that it would be resolved as quickly as possible.

Two Indian nationals Shyamsunder Agarwal and Deepak Raheja have complained of ill-treatment ever since they were kidnapped on the 15th of December by some local people.
