New Delhi condemns ‘derogatory’ material against TN CM on Sri Lankan website

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said in the Lok Sabha on Monday that the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka will be summoned to apprise him of the feelings of India on the Sri Lanka website issue.

In a brief intervention, Mrs. Swaraj condemned the derogatory material relating to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister on the official website of Sri Lanka.

The issue was raised by AIADMK leader M. Thambidurai.

Proceedings in both the Houses of Parliament were stalled during the pre-lunch session on different issues including the reported derogatory remarks posted in the Sri Lankan Website.

In the Upper House when it met after the second adjournment, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said the government has strongly condemned the development.

She said that she will convey the feeling of the members to Sri Lankan government.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned for half-an-hour till 1230 hours as AIADMK members raised the issue.

When the House reassembled, AIADMK members again raised the issue.

Responding to this, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkiah Naidu said that this is a serious matter and the Centre is deeply concerned over the development.

He said the incident is unacceptable and condemnable. Not satisfied with the Minister’s response, the agitating AIADMK members trooped into the well forcing its adjournment till 2 PM.
