New Delhi is committed to the safety and security of Mauritius. External Affairs Minister S M Krishna today said that India and Mauritius enjoy an active programme on cooperation various fields including capacity building, economic and social development, defence and security and trade and investment. In a joint statement with visiting Mauritius foreign Affairs Minister Dr Arvin Boolell, Mr Krishna expressed concern over piracy in the region and said that both sides have decided to enhance there cooperation to prevent it. Noting the regular exchange of high level visits between India and Island nation, Mr Krishna said the Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam paid a State visit to India in February this year. During his visit India announced an economic package of 270 million dollars which included a line of credit of 250 million US dollars and grant of 20 million US dollars to Mauritius.
Both the leaders discussed various issues of International regional and bilateral interest.
