The Foreign Secretary level talks between India and Pakistan begins in New Delhi today. Foreign Secretary Ranjan Mathai and his Pakistani counterpart Jalil Abbas Jilani, who arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday, will discuss peace and security including confidence building measures, Jammu and Kashmir and promotion of friendly exchanges. They are also likely to review the outcome of the talks held so far in the second round of the dialogues that resumed last year.
The meeting is taking place in the backdrop of the arrest of Abu Jundal, who has revealed about Pakistani state agencies' support to the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
On the eve of the two-day talks, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna said that Pakistan needs to do more to tackle terrorism. He said, it is a matter of regret that the Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed is moving freely in Pakistan.
Mr Krishna was talking to reporters on board special aircraft while returning to New Delhi from Tajikistan on Tuesday.
When asked whether India will take up the Abu Jundal issue with Pakistan, Mr Krishna said terror has been one of the issues that New Delhi always discuss and it will do this time too.
Pak Foreign Secretary Jalil Abbas Jilani said that Islamabad will support India in its fight against terrorism.
