New Delhi advises its nationals in coup-hit Mali to exercise caution

India has advised its nationals in military coup-hit Mali to exercise caution and remain in contact with the country's mission there.

An External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said in New Delhi that the Government of India expresses its deep concern over the recent developments in Mali and calls for respect of the Constitutional order and democratic process in that country.

He said India welcomes the statements by the United Nations Security Council and the African Union on the developments in Mali.

The spokesperson said the Ministry of External Affairs is in touch with the Embassy of India in Bamako. The small Indian community in Mali is safe.

The African Union has suspended Mali from its membership following the military coup until constitutional order returns there.
