The yearlong celebration of 400th birth anniversary of Lachit Barphukan was inaugurated by former President Ram Nath Kovind in February this year in Guwahati.  Lachit Barphukan was the famous Ahom General who defeated the Mughals and halted the expanding ambitions of Aurangzeb.
