New Companies Law aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability: Fin Min

Finance Minister P Chidambaram today said that regulators should intervene only in cases of gross violation by companies or when there are clear cases of criminality.Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Central Vigilance Commission, Mr Chidambaram said, the new Companies law is aimed at ensuring transparency, better disclosures and accountability. He said, if the regulator has to investigate non-criminal deviations, it will be over burdened and will fail.The Finance Minister said, in cases of deviations, faith must be put on the company's board of directors and on shareholders to take action against those violating laws.
