Never communicated with any member of Censor Board: I&B Minister

Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley today said neither he nor his

colleague Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore had communicated with any member of the Censor Board at any point of time.

Mr Jaitley was reacting to the resignation of Chairperson of Central Board of Film Certification, Leela Samson.

In a Facebook post, the Minister said he has not met or spoken to any member of the Censor Board nor authorised anyone to do the same.

Mr Jaitley also said the NDA government maintains an arms length distance in all matters relating to Film certification.

He said it is the UPA appointed Board which has since continued and the UPA appointees are themselves to blame.

He also alleged that the UPA government had politicised the Censor Board.

Reacting to Arun Jaitley's remarks that UPA appointees in the Censor Board are politicising routine issues, Congress on Saturday said instead of levelling charges, the minister should come out and state the truth as it is.

Party spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala told AIR that the minister's comment, in the face of serious allegations, is against democratic tradition.
