Netanyahu calls on Abbas to continue talks after freeze ends

Israeli Prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on President Abbas to continue the good and honest talks in order to reach a historic peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians. In a statement after the expiry of settlement freeze, Netanyahu said that Israel is ready to pursue continuous contacts in the coming days to find a way to continue the peace talks to reach a historic framework peace agreement within a year. According to Israeli media Haaretz, Israeli PM spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and held conversations with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Jordanian King Abdullah II on the issue. Meanwhile Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that he would not immediately halt talks with Israel but will go back to the Palestinian institutions, to the Arab League follow-up committee. In an interview with the newspaper Al Hayat, Abbas said he would meet Arab foreign ministers on Oct. 4 to decide how to proceed with peace talks after the expiry of settlement freeze. The White House has said that United States remains hopeful that Israelis and Palestinians will pursue fledgling peace talks despite the expiration of a settlement freeze.
